The Blue Dogs Win 2011 Marina Cup!

Ahoy Mates

On Saturday, June 25th the Marina Sailing Racers gathered in Long Beach for the final race of the series, with the top four places on the line to be decided out on the water. We had the Musketeers onboard Naughty-Cal-Dog; the CutThroats onboard Sapphire; the Lazy Sheets onboard Getaway; the Blue Dogs onboard Wizard; and the Manhattans onboard Arrow.

The race started on schedule at 11:30 and immediately became 2 separate races as Arrow passed the three smaller boats and squared their sights on Wizard, while Sapphire, Getaway, and Naught-Cal-Dog followed and sailed one very competitive grueling hand to hand combat race from the 3rd mark to the finish line. The three boats were involved in tacking duals, overlap battles, and rounding matches for best position over 6-7 miles. At the end Wizard held on to her lead and beat Arrow across the line. Sapphire squeezed out a lead to cross the line ahead of Naughty-Cal-Dog and Getaway.

Congratulations go out to The Blue Dogs for winning both the race and the 2011 Marina Cup.

Overall for the Marina Cup Series in First Place were the Blue Dogs (in their second year of competition), in 2nd Place were the Musketeers, in 3rd Place were the Manhattans, in 4th place were the Lazy Sheets, in 5th Place were the CutThroats, and in 6th place were the Keel Haulers

Many thanks go out to each of the skippers and all of the crew for your participation, and support of our racing program. And special thanks to Chris Mosier, Gary Gilpin, and all the Marina Sailing staff for your sponsorship and allowing us to enjoy our sport.
