Long Beach is California's fifth largest city. It offers a unique combination of strategic location, excellent climate, shoreline beauty, and Southern California lifestyle, wrapped in one package. The fact that Long Beach lies directly in the path of the predominate ?wind channel? makes for a great harbor to day sail or Catalina Island cruise.

The San Gabriel river helps funnel the breeze from the cool ocean to the hot desert. As the hot desert air rises the cool sea breeze is directed right through Long Beach - also helping this natural effect is the proximity of Catalina Island and Palos Verdes Peninsula providing a venturi effect just upwind of Long Beach; so this can in increase the velocity just slightly. The normal wind pattern from May thru October: the breeze starts at about 10:30 am from about 190 maganetic and increases in speed throughout the day as it slowly moves to the southwest ending up at about 230 to 240 degrees magnetic and slowly dies after the sun sets.
